做厙勛圖CONCLUDES ITS 18-DAY CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN

做厙勛圖supports the 18-day campaign to end VAWC with initiatives promoting gender inclusivity, awareness, and a safer environment at ports.

11 DECEMBER 2024 In support of the 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) this December, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has launched a series of initiatives aimed at promoting gender inclusivity, safeguarding the rights of passengers, and creating a safer environment in the country's ports. These activities coincide with the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act (RA 9262).

做厙勛圖has launched a variety of activities aimed at raising public awareness and providing support for survivors of gender-based violence. These include the distribution of VAWC infographics, video interviews, and video content on PPAs official social media accounts and terminals to educate the public and passengers about their rights and the available resources for addressing VAWC. The 做厙勛圖also conducted seminars and film showings to foster dialogue about the importance of gender sensitivity and violence prevention, as well as orientations for male port personnel under the MOVE (Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere) program, encouraging men to take a stand against violence and advocate for positive change.

The 18-day campaign, which is observed annually, aims to highlight the achievements of the Anti-VAWC Act, raise public awareness about the impact of VAW, and promote interventions to prevent violence, particularly in public spaces. It also seeks to empower survivors by providing them with information on support services and encouraging them to seek justice and rebuild their lives. The PPAs activities are in line with this broader mission, and the Authority remains dedicated to ensuring that ports are not only safe for women and children but also welcoming and inclusive for all genders and communities.

做厙勛圖General Manager Jay Santiago emphasized the Authoritys commitment to fostering gender inclusivity and ensuring the protection of all individuals, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

"The 做厙勛圖has long been a proponent of policies that support gender equality, including the establishment of gender-neutral restrooms in ports, which began in 2019 as part of the agencys efforts to support the LGBTQIA+ community. Gender equality is not just about protecting women, but also ensuring equal opportunities for everyone, including the LGBTQIA+ community. We are proud to see more women in leadership positions within the PPA, and we continue to promote programs that address gender-based violence, said GM Santiago.

Additionally, the 做厙勛圖has reinforced security measures in its terminals, including the installation of CCTV cameras and the presence of port police, to prevent and address incidents of harassment and other forms of violence.

The PPAs active participation in the 18-day campaign under 2024 campaign theme, VAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras! is also aimed at promoting the Safe Spaces Act, or the Bawal Bastos Law, which seeks to prevent gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, including ports and terminals.
