23 MAY 2025 — In line with the circulating articles and public officials remarks urging the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to take actions regarding the operational status of Amandayehan Port in Basey, Samar; the Port Management Office of Eastern Leyte/Samar urges shipping operators and stakeholders to coordinate closely with concerned agencies and to refrain from disseminating unverified information that could mislead the public or disrupt safe port operations.

Amandayehan Port is managed by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Basey and is NOT included in the PPA’s official list of designated or served ports. While classified as a government port, °µÍø³Ô¹ÏDOES NOT OPERATE or manage the facility and maintains only regulatory oversight to ensure safety and coordination with national port policies.

In accordance with MARINA and °µÍø³Ô¹Ïprotocols, a valid °µÍø³Ô¹ÏCertification is required to ensure that vessels can safely and lawfully dock at any port facility. Amandayehan Port still needs further improvements before it can accommodate safe maritime operations.

In line with this, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Samar 2nd District Engineering Office only issued a Certification of Port Readiness on May 22, 2025 allowing limited cargo and RORO/LCT operations, but only pending full port development and subject to compliance with operational and regulatory requirements. Hence, there was no delay in operations in the part of PPA.

The °µÍø³Ô¹Ïacknowledged that while the DPWH, in coordination with the LGU of Basey, has begun improvements to the port it still requires significant upgrades to meet national standards for maritime operations.

°µÍø³Ô¹Ïremains committed to supporting safe, lawful, and coordinated maritime transport in the region.Ìý
