23 JUNE 2025 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the inspection of the newly constructed Port of Marawi today June 23, 2025, a major government infrastructure project aimed at restoring connectivity and accelerating economic recovery in the city nearly seven years after the 2017 siege.
The new port, developed by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) under the Marawi Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Peacebuilding Program (MRRP) of the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Marawi Rehabilitation and Development, is seen as a crucial facility in strengthening transportation and trade in the region.
President Marcos was joined during the inspection by 做厙勛圖General Manager Jay Santiago and other 做厙勛圖officials. Aldo joining the President were Presidential Adviser for Marawi Rehabilitation and Development Sec. Nasser Pangandaman, Sr., Lanao Del Sur Provincial Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong, Jr. and other local officials.
The Port of Marawi, along with the nearby Marawi Fish Port, was built with a total allocation of 261.5 million. The facility features:
泭 泭* An 8,000-square meter backup area
泭 泭* A single-storey passenger terminal building
泭 泭* A one-storey fish port
泭 泭* Berthing facilities for fast craft vessels
泭 泭* A Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) ramp
Before the project, local residents relied only on a basic causeway for their transportation and fishing needs. With the port now nearing full operation, it is expected to facilitate smoother movement of goods, passengers, and services across Marawi City and surrounding communities, especially via Lake Lanaothe second-largest lake in the Philippines.
President Marcos emphasized the importance of modern port infrastructure in Marawi and directed relevant agencies to study the development of additional ports around Lake Lanao to boost connectivity and regional integration.
做厙勛圖General Manager Santiago noted that the Port of Marawi is part of the agencys wider effort to enhance access and economic opportunities in underserved areas.
