°µÍø³Ô¹ÏPMO Bohol welcomes TOUR DE CEBU 2024, showcasing Ro-Ro ports' capability to handle vintage sports cars.

10 NOVEMBER — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), through its Port Management Office (PMO) Bohol, successfully facilitated the arrival of the TOUR DE CEBU 2024, a prestigious 1,000-kilometer motoring event showcasing vintage and sports cars. This year marks the eighth edition of the celebrated rally, which once again demonstrates the capability of Ro-Ro (Roll-on, Roll-off) ports to handle high-value and delicate cargo, including classic vehicles with precision and care.

The TOUR DE CEBU is a premier car rally featuring vintage sports cars manufactured in 1972 and older. Over 40 classic vehicles, along with their participants, arrived at the Port of Tubigon, Bohol on November 7, 2024 aboard the MV FastCat 20 from Cebu City. The unloading process went smoothly, with the vehicles safely transported to Tubigon Plaza, which served as the event’s flag-off point. The rally and its activities continued in Panglao, Bohol before the participants boarded a Ro-Ro again on November 9, 2024, for the final leg of the tour in Cebu on November 10, 2024.

"The success of this year's TOUR DE CEBU reflects the Philippine Ports Authority’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that our ports can meet the unique requirements of transporting high-end vehicles like these," said °µÍø³Ô¹ÏGeneral Manager Jay Santiago. "Our Ro-Ro ports have been specifically designed to handle the transport of specialized cargo, including classic and vintage cars, with the utmost safety and efficiency."

The government has long championed the Ro-Ro system, which allows for the smooth transport of rolling stock cargo like cars and trucks across the country's islands. Ro-Ro ports are a key element of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway, a program initiated to enhance the connectivity of the Philippine islands and promote domestic tourism.

The ability to transport delicate items like vintage sports cars via Ro-Ro vessels is a testament to the advanced infrastructure and procedures at PPA-managed ports. With modern terminals, well-trained staff, and focus on security, °µÍø³Ô¹Ïis able to support large-scale motoring events like TOUR DE CEBU while also ensuring the safe handling of high-value goods.

The TOUR DE CEBU is a unique blend of adventure and precision, inspired by Italy's famous Mille Miglia rally. This year’s event, running from November 6-10, 2024, highlights the scenic beauty of the Visayan islands and attracts car enthusiasts. Ìý

"With the strategic development of our Ro-Ro ports, including the Port of Tubigon, we are fully equipped to meet the needs of events like TOUR DE CEBU," said GM Santiago. "This goes beyond simply transporting cars; it’s about highlighting the world-class infrastructure that connects our islands and makes them accessible for events that celebrate tourism, culture, and heritage."
