DECEMBER 19, 2016, MANILA—With only five days to go before the Philippines celebrates Christmas and 13 days away from the New year, Philippine ports remain efficient and productive despite the influx of Christmas cargoes.

DECEMBER 8, 2016, MANILA—The Philippines, through the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), is reigniting plans to adopt the Facilitation of the International Maritime Traffic Convention of 1965 or popularly known as the FAL Convention.

The °µÍø³Ô¹Ïled the crafting of the ratification papers in 1996 with the Philippine Coast Guard, Maritime Industry Authority, the Department of Foreign affairs, among others, for the convention but has not been ratified in Congress the past two decades.

NOVEMBER 17, 2016, MANILA—The Philippines is urging the member nations of the Asean Ports Association (APA) to align their policies and port infrastructure improvements to take advantage of China’s Maritime Silk Road (MSR).

Speaking before the delegates of the 42nd APA Main Meeting hosted by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), Transport Secretary Arthur P. Tugade said the MSR offers immense growth opportunities as it allows APA members to expand its trading base aside from the traditional markets like the USA, Japan, China, Australia and India.

NOVEMBER 10, 2016, MANILA—The Philippines, through the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), is hosting the 42nd Meeting of the ASEAN Ports Association (APA) on November 15-16, 2016.

The event, which will be held at the Solaire Resorts Hotel located at the country’s Entertainment City in Parañaque, is expected to be attended by the top port executives and decision makers from the member nations of the APA.

NOVEMBER 2, 2016, MANILA—Philippine exports posted the highest growth percentage in cargo volume pulling up the country’s total cargo throughput higher by 9% in the first 9 months of the year.

Latest data from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) showed that throughput reached 183.730 million metric tons (mmt) as compared to the 168.074 mmt registered in the same period last year.

OCTOBER 25, 2016, MANILA--Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago today visited the Ports of Batangas and Calapan, two of the country's busiest passenger terminals, as part of PPA's Oplan Ligtas Biyahe -- Undas 2016 to guarantee safety, comfort and convenience of passengers while inside the terminals while waiting for their scheduled trips. Free Wi-Fi is also provided in 67 terminals nationwide making °µÍø³Ô¹Ïports more passenger-friendly. Santiago is also set to visit the North Port, the country's premiere domestic port, this Thursday.

OCTOBER 24, 2016, MANILA—Net income of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) soared in the first nine months of the year despite the continuing drop in storage fees due to the introduction of the terminal truck appointment and booking system (TABS) early this year.

MANILA, SEPTEMBER 26, 2016—The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) posted a seven consecutive month of positive net income registering another double-digit increase after tax.

Latest data from the °µÍø³Ô¹Ïshowed that net income for the Jan-Jul 2016 period is at P4.39 billion or 16% higher than the P3.78 billion posted in the same period in 2015.

Likewise, the actual figure is higher by 64.22% compared to the target set for the seven-month period of P2.67 billion.
